Tips to customize your wood bench!

Want to customize your wood bench? It's super simple and easy to do, just follow our easy step by step method. 

1. Define the space on bench and subject matter of what you would like to put on your bench.

2. Buy a stencil the correct size for the area. Stick On stencils work will for a few sticks but loose there stickiness after a few stick. They still work fine but a little more care is needed when placing them. There are several major art stores that have a great selection. I have also found some sellers on Ebay will custom make stencils at a fairly reasonable price. This works perfect for a business logo or something simple you create. 

3. Buy Acrylic Paint or Stencil Paint Crème, and small paint brush for acrylic paint or stencil paint brush. If you use acrylic paint pour small amount of paint on cardboard and let it dry a little (2-3 minutes).

4. I like to try the stencil on a practice piece first, just to make sure the look is what I want and to judge how light to paint. DO NOT over saturate when painting with stencils, lighter and drier is always better. Easily tap the paint brush on the stencil start in open areas then work to the outside of stencil, reload brush as needed but always start on open areas. Starting right on stencils edge can cause bleeding remember dry light paint works best.   

5. Once you have a feel for paint thickness and how the stencil perform start painting on bench. If you make a mistake simple wipe off with wet rag right away. If your bench is going to be outdoors or you want some added protection clear coat bench with Spar Urethane. Make sure to let the paint dry typically a few hours over night is ideal.

It's that simple to customize you bench for an occasion or any person. I used acrylic paint with a stick on stencil, this was for my granddaughters so the 16 butterflies where perfect for them. Have fun customizing your bench and making it unique and one of a kind!
